Bronze
In his recent works created in bronze, Mark explores the transformation power of art more deeply. These works depict women and men involved in the rhythm of everyday life (Prosaic series) as also performers practicing their art (Rehersal series). Stylised and graceful, at the obvious level these works arouse a sense of wonder at the extraordinary hidden behind the façade of mundane life.
These works could also be viewed in another way. The actions he depicts in both these series are basically repetitive in nature and like any action performed consistently over time and with awareness, these have the ability to align the body and mind. In that respect he sees the activities of everyday life and the process of making art in similar terms as both are capable of reaching the same end- a sense of harmony in existence. Thus through his own approach and his depiction of the arts within his frames, Mark subtly democratises the idea of art by bringing it into the space of the everyday and vice-versa.
